PROVOCARE, SI’!, BESTEMMIARE, NO! MCLAREN HA UN LISTINO PIENO DI MODELLI 2 POSTI. MA IN FUTURO ARRIVERA’ UNA 3 POSTI – PROGETTO BP23. E ORA IL BOSS MIKE FLEWITT APRE A UNA MCLAREN 4 POSTI. MA MAI 4 PORTE.

La nicchia delle supercar con 2 porte e 4 posti è tutta da esplorare. E’ una piccola area di mercato piuttosto… “strana”, nella quale non molti competitor hanno il coraggio di competere. Anzi: a tutt’oggi ci sono Ferrari con la GTC/4 Lusso (e versione più piccola, Lusso T) dotata di una coraggiosa carrozzeria Shooting Brake e Bentley con la Continental GT (meglio Speed!). Concorrenti non ce ne sono sicché è necessario sconfinare in altri ambiti: a dire il vero la prima vera titolata concorrente, la Lamborghini Urus, arriverà solo più avanti ma poiché avrà 4 porte (anzi, 5!) non sarà una concorrente pura, almeno sul piano del layout.

Maggiore concorrenza potrebbe invece arrivare da McLaren: in un’intervista ad Auto Express, l’Amministratore Delegato Mike Flewitt ha dichiarato che l’azienda sta valutando la possibilità di mettere in vendita un modello con 4 posti, sebbene non sarà mai messa in commercio una McLaren con 4 porte.

“Posso vedere 4 posti ma non 4 porte – ha dichiarato Flewitt. Stiamo valutando, stiamo cercando di capire se è qualcosa che il mercato vorrebbe vedere dal nostro brand. Bisognerebbe utilizzare un’architettura a passo lungo così si verrebbe a perdere qualcosa in agilità”.

Secondo Flewitt, ci sono tre importanti valori che una possibile McLaren 4 posti dovrebbe rispettare: deve scaturire da un business case solido, deve mantenere al 100% la filosofia McLaren e dovrebbe porsi come leader del segmento.

In attesa di capire se McLaren produrrà una 4 porte, il brand di Woiking sta lavorando su una 3 porte, il progetto PB23 che, prendendo le mosse dalla favolosa F1, sarà l’erede della meravigliosa P1.[:en]

MCLAREN HAS THE SAME FEELINGS: THEY’RE THINKING ABOUT A 4 SEATS MODEL BUT NOT A 4 DOORS ONE.

We all know that the only one “real” 4 seats supercar is the Ferrari GTC4Lusso (and it’s baby sister Lusso T). The Bentley Continental GT (Speed!) has 4 seats too but it’s miss that great shooting brake allure and maybe it’s too sporty and too… coupé!

But in the future a new hit to the niche of spacious supercars (Porsche Cayenne/Panamera Turbo S, Bentley Bentayga and all the mighity big Mercedes AMG are out of this play) will come from Lamborghini Urus. And now, according to McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, we also know a new incumbent could come from Woking.

Speaking with Auto Express, McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt revealed that people at Woking are considering/exploring the possibility of a four-seat McLaren. But Flewitt – first of all – pointed out that McLaren is not seeing towards a four doors car, exactly the same philosophy at Ferrari.

According to McLaren boss, the new car should respect three fundamental core values: it would come out from a solid business plan, it would be a genuine McLaren and it should position itself at the top of its segment/niche.

“I can see four seats but not four doors – said Flewitt. We’d look at it, see if it’s what the market wants and see if it would still have the driving attributes that you’d want from our cars—you would have to use a slightly longer wheelbase so you would lose a little of the agility that’s there”.
